Dhaka, April 2 -- The army has been deployed in Satkhira's Assasuni Upazila to assist in relief efforts after the collapse of a section of an embankment sent floodwaters surging into villages.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate confirmed the deployment through a media statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the breach occurred when approximately 150 feet of the embankment in Anulia Union crumbled into the Kholpetua River around 11am on Mar 31.

Residents attempted to construct a temporary barrier but to no avail due to the rapid rise in tidal pressure.
