Dhaka, Dec. 4 -- Apex Group Managing Director Syed Nasim Manzur has said businessmen can "no longer bear" the level of interest rates raised to rein in inflation.

In response, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur expressed hope that inflation would fall below 5 percent within the current fiscal year.

He also promised to cut the policy interest rate and revise the structure of lending and deposit rates once inflation drops below 7 percent.

Speaking at an investment dialogue organised by BIDA on Thursday, Nasim said: "A humble request to you (the governor) -- businesspeople can't take this interest anymore. It's becoming impossible for us.
