Dhaka, Dec. 12 -- The Awami League and its affiliated organisations, whose activities are banned, have brought out a protest procession in Dhaka's Ganabhaban area.

The procession paraded down the Aurangzeb Road in front of the Ganabhaban at 10pm on Thursday, hours after Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin announced the schedule for the general election on Feb 12.

The referendum on implementing the July Charter will be held simultaneously.

"People taking part in the procession shouted slogans 'Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu,' 'schedule announced by illegal govt, we don't accept, we will not,'" said a witness named Abu Sayem.

The procession had people riding motorcycles at its from and back.
