Dhaka, April 29 -- Gulshan police have taken TV actor Siddiqur Rahman, widely known as Siddique, into custody after he was beaten up and dragged away to Ramna police by several youths earlier on Tuesday.

Ramna police Deputy Commissioner Md Masud Alam said he was handed over to the Gulshan unit in connection to two cases over the anti-discrimination movement in July.

Around 10pm, the officer said: "He has already been transferred to Gulshan police."

Gulshan police chief Mahmudur Rahman confirmed the matter and said Siddique would be taken to court on Wednesday.

Around 5pm on Tuesday, a group of young men attacked Siddique and turned him over to police.
