Dhaka, Feb. 22 -- A Jamaat-e-Islami activist has been run over and killed by a bus while attempting to clear up traffic congestion blocking a convoy carrying the party's chief.

The incident occurred on the Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway in the Syedpur area of Cumilla's Lalmai Upazila, according to Md Shah Alam, chief of Lalmai Police Sttaion.

The deceased, 53-year-old Jashim Uddin, hailed from Syedpur's Paschim Para area in the Upazila. He leaves behind a wife and three sons.

Syedpur village resident Maruf Siraji, who witnessed the incident, said: "Four vehicles in the Jamaat-e-ameer's convoy were headed to Lakshmipur when they got stuck in traffic in Bagmara's Uttarbazar area. Jamaat activists then attempted to clear up the traffic...
