Bangladesh, July 11 -- Police have detained seven people and seized seven trucks laden with about Tk 14 million in sugar smuggled in from India in Sylhet.

The incident occurred around 5am on Thursday in the city's Shah Poran Thana area, said Md Sohel Reza, deputy commissioner (south) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

"A team of metropolitan detective police conducted an operation in Shah Poran Thana's Pirer Bazar area and seized six trucks carrying sugar smuggled in from India. Six people were detained at the time."

"Personnel from Shah Poran Police Station conducted another raid on the Bypass Road in the same Thana and seized a truck carrying sugar smuggled in from India and detained another person."
