Dhaka, Feb. 21 -- A routine police search in Dhaka's Jatrabari has turned violent when a group of youths stabbed a constable and fled, leaving behind a bag containing crude bombs at the checkpoint.

The incident occurred around 2pm on Saturday at a police search post near the Kutubkhali Pocket Gate.

The injured constable, identified as Shah Alam, was stabbed above his left eye and later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to Jatrabari Police chief Mohammad Raju.

The officer said the attack occurred when police attempted to search a suspicious individual.

"While on duty, a police member tried to check a suspect. The suspect suddenly stabbed the constable in the forehead with a knife and fled," the officer said.
