Bangladesh, Sept. 3 -- Malaysian immigration authorities have detained hundreds of Bangladeshi nationals during a raid on illegal gambling activities in Kuala Lumpur.

The operation, code-named Op Belanja, was carried out in the Bukit Bintang area on Tuesday night following weeks of public complaints about groups of foreigners gathering in the entertainment district, according to Malaysian news agency Bernama.

Immigration Enforcement Division Director Basri Othman said officers raided a premises in Jalan Bedara where foreigners were gambling, both in person and online.

Some tried to escape by climbing buildings or hiding under tables, but they were all caught, according to him.
