Dhaka, July 3 -- A Dhaka court has sentenced three people to life in prison for the murder of Italian national Cesare Tavella, who was shot dead in 2015 in Gulshan's diplomatic area.

BNP leader MA Quayum and his brother Abdul Matin are among four suspects acquitted after the charges against them were not proven.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam delivered the verdict in the case on Thursday.

Suspects Tamzid Ahmed aka Rubel aka Shooter Rubel, Minhazul Arefin Rasel aka Bhagne Rasel and Rasel Chowdhury aka Chakki Rasel have been sentenced to life in prison.

Each of them have also been fined Tk 50,000. A failure to pay the fine will also result in an additional year in prison.
