Dhaka, Jan. 11 -- The High Court has asked why the candidacies of members of the Jatiya Party (GM Quader) and Jatiya Democratic Front (NDF) should not be scrapped ahead of the 13th parliamentary election.

A bench headed by Justice Razik-Al-Jalil issued the rule on Sunday after an initial hearing on a writ petition on the matter.

ASM Shahriar Kabir represented the petitioner at the hearing.

Abdullah Al Mahmud filed the petition last week, seeking a court order to bar candidates from the Jatiya Party faction led by GM Quader, another Jatiya Party faction led by Anisul Islam Mahmud, and the NDF led by Anwar Hossain Manju from contesting the polls.
