Dhaka, June 25 -- "Mob justice" in Bangladesh has morphed into a dangerous frenzy, BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said, calling it a "threat to humanity".
In a message marking the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture on Wednesday, he said although the country is no longer under "fascist rule", genuine democratic practice is yet to take hold.
He believes the current environment has given rise to a "mob-driven rage" that risks undermining social order and justice.
Tarique urged pro-democracy groups to remain united, saying the country must avoid slipping back into "a one-party system".
He called for a renewed national commitment to humanity, justice, rule of law, and electoral integrity.
