United Kingdom, April 18 -- Royal Mail has unveiled a solar-powered post box with a barcode scanner with a hatch to accept parcels larger than letterbox size.

The post box's new large hatch offers a new way for the postal service to generate extra revenue with second hand selling on a rise and people using sites such as Vinted to make extra cash and sell their goods.

Consumers will be able to send parcels from these post boxes that have a barcode. They can then scan their code and the solar-panel based battery will allow the drawer to open and using the Royal Mail app, they can track the parcel.
