United Kingdom, Aug. 7 -- The idea that artificial intelligence will create new jobs is "100 per cent crap", ex-Google executive Mo Gawdat has said.

Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast, the former chief business officer at Google X dismissed the popular narrative that AI will open up new employment opportunities to offset job losses caused by automation.

He said: "The idea that AI will create new jobs is 100 per cent crap.

"We've never seen a technology that disrupted white-collar work as deeply as this one."

Gawdat, who helped lead projects at Google's moonshot innovation lab, said the consequences of AI will be far-reaching - even for the most senior roles.

He warned: "There is no job that's safe. Not even a CEO's job is safe."...
