According to Macworld, internal developer code indicates Apple is moving toward on-wrist biometric authentication.
The outlet reports that the leaked code references "AppleMesa", Apple's longstanding internal codename for Touch ID.
The entries specifically point to prototype code for 2026 Apple Watch models, suggesting the technology is still in early development and not yet ready for public release.
It's been claimed that none of the current or upcoming 2025 models contain Touch ID references, reinforcing expectations that any rollout of the feature is at least a year away.
