United Kingdom, May 22 -- Sir Rod Stewart wants to break a sprinting world record.

The 80-year-old singer recently began running 100m on a private track within the grounds of his home in a bid to stay fit, and while he's happy with his current speed, he's keen to shave off a few more seconds.

He told AARP - The Magazine: "I got it down to 19 seconds by learning how to push off.

"I'm going to try and do 17 seconds, which I think is a world record for an 80 year old."

Despite his advancing years, Rod insisted he is still "very fit" and has found underwater swimming particularly helpful in looking after both his physical health and his voice.
