United Kingdom, Feb. 8 -- Shania Twain hates the idea of "being put in a box" when it comes to her career.

The 59-year-old singer is one of the best-selling artists of all time with record sales of more than 100 million and is known for hits such as 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman' but admitted that she starts to "panic" if she is not given free will to explore things.

She told People: "If I feel like I'm being put in a box, I start to panic.

"I run in any direction I can because I don't want to be contained. I have to be able to find my own way.

"Sometimes I'm not even sure where I'm going myself. How can somebody else tell me that, right? So I need the freedom to explore and to land wherever that exploration takes me."
