United Kingdom, Feb. 3 -- Nicki Minaj has thrown her support behind Donald Trump because of the "bullying" directed at the US President.

The 43-year-old rapper has become an unlikely backer of the White House chief and explained that she decided to give Trump her support as she could relate to the criticism being fired in his direction.

Asked about her shift towards conservative politics, Nicki told The Katie Miller Podcast: "Religious freedom is something that's very important to me.

"But if I'm being honest, President Trump... because when I saw how he was being treated over and over and over, I just couldn't handle it."
