United Kingdom, March 10 -- Matthew McConaughey thinks writing his memoir made him a better actor.

The 55-year-old hunk - who has returned from a six-year acting hiatus with a role in upcoming thriller 'The Rivals of Amziah King' - looked back on his old diary entries to put together 'Greenlights', which was released in October 2020, and the Oscar-winning star believes doing so helped him to "trust" himself and be more "honest" with his performance.

He told Variety: "The memoir was extremely honest and it forced me to be honest with myself.

"It cleared up things you've been thinking about for 35 years. And it makes you realise that's kind of who you are, Matthew. Let's admit that and shake hands. Bravo.
