United Kingdom, Nov. 29 -- Hilary Duff claims Jennifer Coolidge was "mean" and "scary" to her on the set of A Cinderella Story.

The actress - who was 15 years old in the 2004 comedy-romance movie - played Samantha Montgomery, and Jennifer, 64, played Samantha's evil stepmother, Fiona.

And Hilary, 38, had to constantly remind herself that Jennifer was pretending to be wicked, and that the pair were making a film.

Hilary told Variety: "She was mean to me, so it was a little scary because I was only 15, and she was mean to me because she was my evil stepmother.

"At the time, I had to be like, 'You're filming a movie.'"
