United Kingdom, Jan. 31 -- Jay Leno only sleeps around four hours a night.

The 74-year-old comedian has never been a "big sleeper", with Jay explaining that not having a "real job" has actually helped him to cope with a lack of sleep.

Speaking about his role in the new movie 'Midas Man', Jay told PEOPLE: "I've always been that way - I've never a big sleeper.

"I thought, 'Well, I just gotta change my way, so say I go to bed at 2:00 or 2:30, I'll go to bed at 11:30,' and then I was up at 3:00.

"Now I'm reading for three and a half hours before I have to do anything. That's not working. So I just went back to my old way of going to bed at 2 or 2:30 and then waking up at 7:30 or 8:00."
