United Kingdom, Nov. 21 -- Jay Leno has made a conscious decision to stay away from politics.

The 75-year-old star has revealed that his stand-up comedy career profited from his decision to steer clear of political opinions, explaining that his ticket sales surged by as much as 30 percent when he changed his act.

During an appearance on the Today show, Jay shared: "I took politics out of it.

"I noticed ticket sales are up 20 to 30 percent just because nobody wants to be lectured."

On the other hand, Jay suggested that other comedians have adopted a different approach.

He said: "When you're on TV and you can play directly to your audience and there's a laugh track.
