United Kingdom, March 7 -- Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa died "a week" apart, according to medical examiners.

The Academy Award-winning actor was found to have passed away at the age of 95 alongside his wife Betsy, 63, and one of their dogs in their New Mexico home towards the end of February, and now it has been confirmed that "significant heart disease" ultimately caused his death.

Heather Jarrell, New Mexico's chief medical examiner, also told reporters on Friday (07.03.25) that Betsy had died as a result of hantavirus - which is a rare flu-like illness carried by infected rodents - and it is believed that she passed away on 11 February.
