United Kingdom, Sept. 4 -- Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has admitted some of his movies were "not so good".

The former wrestler has won praise for his performance as MMA fighter Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine - which premiered at the Venice Film Festival this week - and admitted he enjoyed the chance to show off his dramatic range after feeling "pigeonholed" with multiple roles in big-budget action and comedy films.

Speaking at a press conference in Venice, he said: "I just had this burning desire and this voice that was saying, 'Well, again, what if?'

"But what if there is more and what if I can? And a lot of times it's harder for us to, or at least for me, to know what you're capable of when you've been pigeonholed into something.
