
Kenya, May 23 -- Today, many top TV stations in Kenya have started using sign language interpreters. One of the most well-known is Youla Nzale from Citizen TV. This was not common in the past.
Having interpreters has been very helpful. It allows TV stations to reach more viewers and makes it easier for deaf people to understand the news.
Since it is a new practice in the country, there are still not many sign language interpreters at local TV stations. She is the face of sign language interpretation at Royal Media Services TV.
You can see her in a small box on the bottom of the screen during every primetime news broadcast. Her hard work and passion have made her the most in-demand sign language interpreter in Kenya.
Youla Nzale is a loved sign language interpreter who works for Citizen TV. She became famous in 2019 when she interpreted a speech by former president Uhuru Kenyatta at the Devolution conference in Kirinyaga County. Her performance at the event went viral online.
Many people praised her for her enthusiastic interpretation. Since then, she has gained a lot of fans. Youla is known for her friendly smile and humble nature.
Before becoming a sign language interpreter, Youla worked as a saleslady at Gilead Enterprise for three months. Afterwards, she was an administrative assistant at Gedicom Limited.
In 2015, she joined the Kenya Institute of Management. Her main job there was to translate lectures into Kenyan sign language.
To follow her passion, she later enrolled in a certificate course at the University of Nairobi, which helped her learn more about sign language interpretation. She did not know that her skills would be in such high demand.
After improving her skills, Youla was interviewed by Citizen TV in 2018. She began as a freelance sign language interpreter at Royal Media Services.
At first, few people knew her because sign language interpretation was still new in Kenya. But everything changed in 2019. The Citizen TV's sign language interpreter Youla Nzale runs Rafiki Vaa, a cloth-making and selling merchandise. She launched the venture in 2018.
During the Devolution conference, her talent was shown to many people. Her creative and expressive sign language interpretation of former president Uhuru Kenyatta's speech moved many hearts. Since then, Youla Nzale has become a well-known public figure.
