Kenya, April 13 -- Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has put an end to speculation about his future, confirming a new contract with the club that will keep him at Anfield until June 2027.
The Dutch defender, whose current deal was set to expire in the summer, expressed his deep connection to the Reds, saying, "Everybody knows I love this club. Let's see what next week looks like!"
The agreement, finalised after months of negotiations, secures the 33-year-old's services for two more years, a major coup for Liverpool under manager Arne Slot.
Sources close to the club report the contract is "ready and sealed", with an official announcement expected imminently.
Van Dijk's cryptic comment about "next week" has fuelled excitement among fans, who anticipate a formal unveiling alongside potential updates on other key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Van Dijk, who joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2018 for £75 million, has been pivotal to their success, anchoring the defence during their 2019 Champions League and 2020 Premier League triumphs.
This season, he's been a rock at the back, helping Liverpool maintain a strong position in both domestic and European competitions. Posts on X erupted with praise, with one fan writing, "VVD stays! Our captain, our leader!"
The news comes as Liverpool prepares for a crucial Premier League clash against Tottenham. Slot hailed Van Dijk's commitment, saying, "His experience and quality are vital.
This is huge for us." While the deal quashes rumours of a move to clubs like Real Madrid or Al-Nassr, attention now turns to whether Liverpool can extend contracts for other stars nearing free agency.
