Kenya, May 26 -- Traffic was very bad along Thika Road on Monday evening because of protests. People made bonfires at two important places-one near the entrance to Mang'u High School in Ndarugo and the other at the Witeithie highway access point.
The protests were to support Juja MP George Koimburi, who is in the hospital after he was allegedly kidnapped and hurt.
Witnesses say the fires were started to show anger about what happened to the MP, who was taken outside a church in Mugutha on Sunday.
He was found alive early Monday, left in a coffee plantation in Kiambu County, and is now getting care at Plainsview Hospital.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made serious claims about this incident. He says Koimburi was tortured and poisoned with something that affected his throat, making it hard for him to speak.
Gachagua also said the MP was hurt during the 18 hours he was missing and that people who are professionals did this on orders from high-ranking officials.
These claims have not been verified, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said they are not involved while also confirming that they are looking into the kidnapping.
The bonfires caused traffic delays for several hours, and police were sent to control the situation and open the road.
Authorities are asking for calm as they continue to investigate what happened to Koimburi and to find out who is responsible.
