Kenya, July 18 -- The calendar used to terrify me. My periods were always unbearable, not just uncomfortable. I had crippling spasms that made my insides twist like knives. feeling queasy. exhaustion. severe bleeding that persisted for several days. I would curl up on the ground, weeping, sweaty, and unable to move or talk. I knew what I was experiencing wasn't typical, yet my pals would make jokes about "period pain."I was told, "It's just part of being a woman," for years. You'll get over it. I didn't.Indeed, it worsened. Discomfort during intimacy. Discomfort when going to the loo. Pain that persisted after my menstrual period. I was unable to focus at work or go out with friends, and, to be honest, I began to despise my body. Every month, it seemed to be punishing me. I eventually received a diagnosis of endometriosis after several hospital stays, ultrasounds, blood tests, and heartfelt explanations. They informed me there was no genuine treatment, which was heartbreaking but also a comfort to have a name for the monster inside of me. To read more click here.
