Kenya, May 11 -- Farouk Kibet, a close friend of President William Ruto and an important person in Kenya's politics and religion, has caused a big controversy after something surprising he said during a church fundraiser in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.

While speaking to people at Tapsagoi AIC church, Kibet reportedly said, "Sisi tunaabudu shetani!" which means "We worship the devil!" in Swahili. This shocked everyone there and many people online.

Kibet is known for supporting many churches and often organizing fundraising events across different churches.

It seems he made a mistake while speaking. People who were at the event believe he meant to say "Sisi tunaabudu Mungu," meaning "We worship God," but he mixed up his words, surprising the crowd.

The event raised more than Sh8 million for 15 churches in the area and had many local leaders attending.

As soon as his statement spread on social media, especially a clip shared by Plug TV Kenya, many people reacted quickly.

Some made jokes about Kibet, with one person on X saying, "Farouk Kibet just confessed what we've all been thinking! Was it a mistake or something more?"

Others defended him, saying it was just an honest error. "He has done so much for churches; it's clearly just a mix-up," wrote another user.
