Kenya, May 16 -- Alex Nyachonga Apoko, who is better known as Ringtone, went to the Milimani Law Courts because he is facing serious charges in a land scam worth Sh50 million.

Ringtone is accused of trying to trick someone into giving up their land. He is also charged with making false statements and lying under oath.

This situation comes from his attempt to claim a small piece of land (0.1908 hectares) in Runda, which is not his.

This case started because a woman, who actually owns the land, made a report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on May 18, 2023.

She said that Ringtone, along with a person named Juma Ayoro and a group of hired men, went to her home in Runda. They allegedly forced the caretaker out and took over the property, leading to a legal fight.

After the complaint, detectives from the Land Fraud unit began an investigation and discovered a lot of false information.

They found that Ringtone and his partner tried to deceive the woman by submitting a fake affidavit on February 28, 2023. In this document, Ringtone mistakenly claimed that he had been living on the land for over 20 years.

However, the investigation showed that the woman has been the legal owner since March 14, 2000, and she has been paying all the necessary bills and taxes for the land.

With strong evidence against him, the detectives got a warrant for Ringtone's arrest on April 14, 2025. He tried to avoid getting caught but was finally found at a hiding place in Kasarani and was arrested.

In court, Ringtone faced several charges, including trying to defraud someone, making false statements, and lying under oath. He pleaded not guilty to everything.

Ringtone was denied bail and is currently in prison at the Industrial Area. He will go back to court on Monday for a hearing about his bail application.
