Kenya, May 15 -- A new report has revealed that advisors to President William Ruto are earning salaries similar to those of Cabinet Secretaries, with each of them making at least Sh1 million every month.
These large salaries are costing Kenyan taxpayers around Sh1 billion each year, which has raised concerns about how the government is spending money.
According to the report, the advisors, whose jobs involve giving important advice to the president, earn packages that match the top salaries of Cabinet Secretaries.
This news has caused a lot of discussion among the public about whether such high salaries are reasonable, especially given the economic difficulties the country is facing.
Critics are pointing out that the money spent on these advisors' salaries could instead be used to help with important national issues.
When President Ruto set up his government, he promised to reduce the number of presidential advisors as part of his plan to save money.
However, he now has at least 20 advisors, some of whom earn the same as Cabinet Secretaries and others who earn like Principal Secretaries, costing more than Sh1 billion to run their offices each year.
Some of the advisors include: Dr. Nancy Laibuni, Dr. Dominic Menjo, Steven Otieno, Professor Abdi Guliye, Major (Rtd) Ali Mahat Somane, Harriette Chiggai, Dr. Silvester Okumu Kasuku, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, Joseph Boinnet, Monica Juma, Professor Edward Waswa Kisiang'ani, David Ndii, Moses Kuria, Professor Makau Mutua, and others.
