Kenya, March 22 -- Fikirini Jacobs, a prominent youth advocate and former student leader, has emerged as a key figure in Kenyan politics following his nomination by President William Ruto to serve as Principal Secretary (PS) for Youth Affairs and Sports.
The announcement, made on Thursday, March 20th, came as part of a broader government reshuffle that included promotions, reassignments, and new appointments to the Cabinet.
Jacobs, widely recognised as a Gen Z influencer and a vocal champion for youth issues, has garnered significant attention and support, particularly from the coastal region of Kilifi, where youth have expressed jubilation over his nomination.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the Ruto administration to engage younger demographics and address their concerns within the government's transformative agenda.
In a statement shared on social media, Jacobs expressed gratitude for the nomination, saying, "It is with great humility and profound appreciation that I accept my nomination by President Ruto for the position of Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and for his confidence in my ability to contribute to the government's transformative agenda."
Political leaders allied with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, including Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro and ODM Communications Director Philip Etale, have congratulated Jacobs, signalling bipartisan support for his rise.
The nomination awaits parliamentary approval, but it has already sparked optimism among youth groups who view Jacobs as a bridge between their generation and the government.
His background as a grassroots organiser and his visibility during recent youth-led movements have positioned him as a relatable and dynamic figure in Kenyan leadership.
