Kenya, May 18 -- The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is now in charge of two homes owned by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

One home is in Karen, Nairobi, and the other is in Wamunyoro, Nyeri County. This action is part of an effort to find Gachagua, who is in trouble over last week's remarks.

Gachagua's lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, reported that many officers came to the two homes on Sunday evening, but the reasons for this action have not been shared by the authorities.

Sources suggest that this could be related to Gachagua's recent comments about the violence that occurred after the 2007 elections during an interview on the Obinna Show.

Also, the former DP is accused of leaking secret activities by the president as well as exposing the head of state's net worth, something sources claim angered the president.

This situation has raised tensions in the area. Gachagua's supporters believe that he is being unfairly targeted for political reasons.

Njiru announced to the media, "The DCI is taking control of all of HE Rigathi Gachagua's homes. They are currently trying to find him."

Gachagua was impeached in October 2024 and has often criticised President William Ruto's government. He continues to gather support from people in Wamunyoro.

In the past, Gachagua faced investigations for suspected money laundering and corruption, including a case in 2021 about Ksh12 billion linked to his businesses, but he denied any wrongdoing.

So far, the police have not made an official statement regarding the search for Gachagua or the taking of his homes. This operation has created a lot of discussion, with supporters calling it a severe action by the government.
