Kenya, May 5 -- The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has made strong accusations against the Standard Media Group. They say that the media group is trying to harm the reputation of their leader, Raila Odinga, and his family.
These accusations began after an article was published in The Standard newspaper on Monday, titled "Our Turn to Eat."
The article claimed that Odinga's family members and close friends received important government jobs after an agreement with President William Ruto in March.
ODM's Executive Director, Oduor Ong'wen, said the article is a bad attempt to damage Odinga's name and his history as someone who fights for the people.
The article mentioned Odinga's brother, Oburu Odinga, and his daughter, Winnie Odinga, getting government positions. It suggested that Odinga used national problems to help himself and his family.
Ong'wen described the article as "not right" and disrespectful because Odinga takes great personal risks to support the country.
"The Standard Media Group has been trying to damage the reputation of our party leader," Ong'wen said. He also mentioned that ODM would give a full response on Tuesday, May 6, explaining what they will do about their connections with the media group.
The article made Odinga seem like he uses his political power for his family's benefit.
It stated, "He calls himself the people's champion, 'Baba' - the voice for those who are struggling. But many times, Raila Odinga has taken advantage of national issues for his own gain and has helped his close friends." ODM has rejected these claims as untrue and harmful.
