Clashes broke out as police used tear gas to control the crowd, who threw stones and set fires in protest.

Susan Wanjiru, Tamara's mother, cried as she described how Macharia, who she trusted and who often helped her carry goods, acted worried during the search, even asking her twice if Tamara had been found.

"It hurts me a lot," Wanjiru said, heartbroken by the betrayal. Tamara's grandmother, Hellen Kuria, also demanded justice: "I can't believe he would do something so cruel to my granddaughter."

Nyeri Town MP Maina Mathenge condemned what happened and urged people to stay calm. He thanked the local business community for providing important CCTV footage.

"Let's allow the law to take its course," he said. Tamara's body was taken to Nyeri County Referral Hospital for a postmortem. Investigations are still ongoing as the community mourns and seeks accountability.
