Kenya, April 21 -- A woman identified as Adelle Omondi has come forward with a harrowing account of being sexually assaulted while travelling on a Mash Poa bus to the Coast, raising serious concerns about passenger safety and alleged institutional cover-ups.
According to sources, Omondi claims she boarded the bus, only to wake up two days later at Coast General Hospital, missing her underwear and with no clear explanation of what transpired.
Omondi alleges that a nurse at the hospital dismissed her concerns, advising her to "move on" without providing adequate medical or legal support.
She further claims that hospital staff failed to document her case properly, suggesting an attempt to suppress the incident.
Mash Poa, the bus operator, reportedly stated they could not trace her seatmate, despite their booking system requiring passenger details, prompting accusations of negligence or deliberate obfuscation.
The allegations have sparked outrage on social media, with users demanding accountability from both Mash Poa and Coast General Hospital.
"This story needs serious attention," wrote one X user, highlighting the gravity of the claims and calling for justice.
Others have criticised the hospital's handling of the case, pointing to a broader issue of institutional failures in supporting survivors of sexual violence.
However, neither Mash Poa nor Coast General Hospital has issued an official statement addressing the specific allegations.
The Mombasa Police Department has not confirmed whether an investigation is underway, but pressure is mounting for authorities to probe the incident thoroughly.
Advocates for survivors of sexual violence are rallying behind Omondi, emphasising the need for systemic reforms to ensure safe public transportation and responsive healthcare services.
The case has reignited discussions about the safety of women travelling alone and the accountability of institutions in addressing gender-based violence.
