Kenya, March 5 -- The Nairobi County Assembly wants to create new rules for non-motorised transport to help reduce traffic and bring order to the Central Business District (CBD).
This information comes from a proposal by Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, who suggests that all non-motorised transport methods should be registered.
This includes things like wheelbarrows, rickshaws, handcarts, animal-drawn carts, luggage trolleys, and tricycles.
Alai believes that these new rules will help with traffic problems and safety issues caused by many people using these types of transport.
Some of the proposed rules include requiring reflective number plates, reflective jackets, and insurance to cover accidents and damages to others.
He also mentioned that these rules would help drivers learn how to be safer on the roads and keep to their lanes.
If the proposal is accepted, the County Assembly will give operators six months to meet these new requirements.
Traffic congestion is a big problem in Nairobi. It can waste time and fuel, lower the quality of life, cause pollution, and make the city look less attractive.
