Kenya, May 14 -- The Nairobi County Revenue Department is starting an enforcement operation today at the Freemasons Hall, which is near the Serena Hotel. The Freemasons' Hall is the Grand Lodge of East Africa.

This operation is aimed at collecting unpaid land rates that total millions of shillings, according to county officials.

The goal is to get the money that has not been paid for a long time. Officials said the hall has over sh 19 million in land rates default, and the county vows to clamp down on other defaulters.

The Freemasons Hall, an important building in Nairobi, could face fines or have its assets taken away if the money is not paid.

County officials did not provide more details about the operation because it is ongoing.

Representatives from the Grand Lodge of East Africa claim that they will engage with the county and find a way forward.

This effort is part of Nairobi County's plan to deal with money shortages by going after those who have not paid their land rates and other taxes.
