Kenya, March 30 -- Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen orders a crackdown on Gen Z opposing the government and President William Ruto. The Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Kipchumba Murkomen, has ordered a sweeping crackdown on Gen Z's who have been vocal in their opposition to the government and President William Ruto.
The directive, announced earlier today, targets young activists and protesters who have increasingly taken to the streets and social media platforms to express dissent over the administration's policies.
Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi, CS Murkomen stated that the government would not tolerate what he described as "disruptive elements" undermining national stability.
"Most of the young people who are writing hateful messages on social media are struggling with mental health," said CS Murkomen.
"We have noted with concern a section of the youth, particularly Gen Z, engaging in activities that threaten the peace and unity of this nation. I have instructed security agencies to take firm action against those opposing the government and the leadership of President Ruto," he said.
The move comes amid rising tensions between the government and younger Kenyans, who have criticized Ruto's administration over issues such as unemployment, economic hardship, and controversial legislative proposals.
Protests led by Gen Z's have gained momentum in recent weeks, with many accusing the government of stifling dissent and failing to address their grievances.
Security forces have been placed on high alert, and sources within the Interior Ministry indicate that the crackdown could involve arrests, surveillance, and restrictions on public gatherings.
The announcement has sparked outrage among civil society groups, who warn that such measures could escalate tensions and infringe on constitutional rights to free expression and assembly.
Opposition leaders have also condemned the order, calling it an attempt to silence a generation frustrated by unfulfilled promises.
"This is a desperate move by a government that has lost touch with the people. Gen Z's are not the enemy; they are the future," said one prominent opposition figure.
