Kenya, March 13 -- Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi made headlines today during a funeral in Uasin Gishu County by strongly criticising Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
His remarks, made at a serious event, showed the increasing tensions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, hinting at possible disagreements after the handshake with Raila Odinga.
The funeral was held to honour a respected elder from Sudi's area and attracted many people, including local politicians and mourners.
Sudi, known for speaking his mind, took this opportunity to attack Mudavadi. He claimed Mudavadi has not kept his promises and is ignoring the needs of Western Kenya.
"Musalia should stop being lazy. He has a big job, but where are the results?"
Sudi shouted, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear. "The people of Western Kenya are watching, and they are tired of false promises."
"He was brought into this government by us, but it seems he has forgotten who helped him. We are not here to play games," Sudi continued, causing some people in the crowd to agree with him.
He also remarked, "Mudavadi doesn't come to funerals for local and poor people. If the deceased were a wealthy person from the Luhya community, Mudavadi would be here today. I'm telling you, only a few people will make it to heaven."
Mudavadi was not at the funeral and has not yet responded to Sudi's statements.
This outburst has raised questions about the problems within the ruling coalition, which Mudavadi joined in 2022 after he made a big declaration to support Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Political experts believe Sudi's comments show the frustration of some UDA supporters over Mudavadi's lack of results in his wide-ranging job, which includes handling foreign affairs and issues related to Kenyans living abroad.
Sudi, a loyal supporter of Ruto, has been speaking up more in recent weeks, trying to show he is fighting for the interests of his region.
