Kenya, March 4 -- Kenyan Member of Parliament George Kaluma has sparked a big debate by proposing to ban all forms of circumcision in Kenya.

During a meeting in Parliament, he called for an end to both male and female circumcision practices across the country.

Kaluma believes these practices are outdated and harmful, and he wants to stop them.

So far, he has not shared all the details about why he thinks this way, but if his proposal becomes law, it would change things a lot for communities where circumcision is an important tradition.

His announcement has already caused strong reactions. Some people who want to keep cultural traditions see this proposal as a threat to their heritage.

Meanwhile, human rights groups, especially those against female genital mutilation (FGM), might support some parts of Kaluma's idea.

However, including male circumcision in his proposal could lead to strong pushback, as this practice is accepted by many communities in Kenya.
