Kenya, June 28 -- Leaders from Ukambani are asking President William Ruto to remove Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen from his position. They believe he is causing problems between different ethnic groups and does not have a clear vision for bringing the country together.

During a visit to Matungulu in Machakos County, these leaders, led by Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, said that Murkomen's recent comments about protests led by young people were harmful and not suitable for someone in his position.

Mwangangi said these remarks could make the gap between the government and young people, who are looking for changes in society and politics, even wider.

"Murkomen's words were divisive and did not reflect the unity we need as a country, especially now. Such statements will only make young people push back harder," Mwangangi said.

The Deputy Governor urged President Ruto to think about replacing Murkomen with someone who understands how to keep the country safe and bring people together.

"We need someone who knows how important it is to unite the country at this time. Murkomen has shown he doesn't understand this, and keeping him in his job could lead to more division," he added.

Mwangangi also spoke out against what he called unfair treatment by the Interior Ministry, claiming that some leaders from certain areas are being unfairly targeted when it comes to security.

"There seem to be different rules for different people in how the Interior Ministry handles security, which is dangerous for our democracy," he said.

This request comes as more people are feeling unhappy and protesting across the country, especially young people, who are concerned about issues like corruption, lack of accountability, and poor governance.
