Kenya, May 30 -- The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced that Grace Nduta Wairimu, a member of the County Assembly for Kanyenya-ini Ward in Murang'a County, spent the whole night of May 25, 2025, with Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi at a bar in Gatundu South. This was during the time when Koimburi claimed he had been kidnapped.
The DCI said in a statement on Thursday that Nduta was arrested on Wednesday because they believe the abduction of MP Koimburi was staged.
Investigators revealed that although Nduta claimed she was in Kangema attending church and political events on that day, evidence shows she was actually at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Koimburi, who was supposedly missing.
The DCI's statement also addressed social media reports about Nduta's alleged abduction, confirming she was arrested on May 29, 2025, as part of their investigation into the staged kidnapping of MP Koimburi.
The statement emphasized that she was not in Kangema, as she had said, but was with Koimburi all night at the bar.
Nduta's driver, who was with her earlier, explained that he received a call from an unknown man asking her to meet at a restaurant in Kandara.
He noticed something strange when he saw a car with lowered windows. He called Nduta to warn her about it, but he couldn't reach her afterwards.
He went back to check and found out that Nduta had been taken by three men he had seen before, who drove her away quickly.
The driver suspected that the man who called her was the same one who brought the others to help.
With Nduta's arrest, there are now four suspects in police custody related to this case. The police have gone to court to request an extra 15 days to keep the three suspects while they finish their investigation.
