
Kenya, June 5 -- You would have seen a guy who had given up on life entirely if you had met me in 2022. I was 32 years old, unemployed, destitute, and plagued with guilt. In addition to my financial difficulties, I was also dealing with severe emotional scars, a quiet sadness, and ideas I never would have considered exploring. Daniel is my name. I had lofty goals and a hopeful heart when I graduated from college. I believed that everything would go according to plan: I would graduate, find a decent job, support my family, and establish my own business.
But those hopes waned year after year. I missed every chance I came across. I would go to interviews, get selected, and then get that heartbreaking email that said, "We regret to inform you." I initially believed that I might simply need to put in more effort. I submitted applications everywhere. I tried selling gadgets, mitumba clothing, launching small enterprises, and even riding a boda. However, nothing persisted.
