Kenya, March 28 -- A woman from Kisii has taken her marital grievances to court, accusing her husband of subjecting her to exhausting sexual demands that she can no longer endure. The Kisii woman complained about her husband in court, saying he sleeps with her from midnight to morning and she cannot "stand it anymore."

In a statement that has sparked widespread discussion, the woman told the court that her husband "chews me from midnight till morning," leaving her unable to rest.

The case, reported by Prime Time News Global on March 28, 2025, highlights the woman's plea for divorce, as she declared, "He doesn't allow me to rest, and I can't stand it anymore."

She further revealed that her husband's behaviour extends beyond their home, alleging that he engages in extramarital affairs, a claim that has added fuel to her resolve to end the marriage.

The woman's testimony has drawn attention to the broader cultural and social challenges faced by the Abagusii community in Kisii, where traditional marriage practices often intersect with modern relationship dynamics.

According to a 2023 study published in the East African Journal of Traditions, Culture, and Religion, the Abagusii have historically placed a strong emphasis on socio-religious marriage customs, but evolving societal norms have led to tensions, including rising cases of domestic disputes and divorce.

Social media reactions to the case have been mixed, with some users expressing sympathy for the woman's plight, while others questioned the complexities of marital expectations.

One user, @Gabriel_gunner2, commented, "What do women want?" while @localboyNY echoed the sentiment, asking, "What do women really want?" Others suggested traditional solutions, with @De_Colloh7proposing that the husband "should find two more wives to make the work easier."

The case comes amid growing concerns over marital stability in Kenya. A study published on Taylor & Francis Online noted that divorce trends in the country are increasingly linked to emotional and financial strain, often exacerbated by cultural shifts.

In Kisii, these challenges are compounded by rising issues of alcohol abuse and violence against women, as highlighted in a 2024 cultural report.

The court has yet to deliver a ruling on the woman's divorce petition, but her case has already ignited a broader conversation about gender roles, marital expectations, and the evolving nature of relationships within the Abagusii community.
