Kenya, April 23 -- A family's Easter holiday became very sad when their 6-year-old son, Dylan Waruiru, drowned in a swimming pool at the Sun and Sand Hotel in Kikambala, Kilifi County.

Dylan's family is still trying to understand what happened. They say a hotel worker asked Dylan if he wanted to play with other kids in the swimming pool.

The mother, Peninnah Muthoni, said she was worried at first and said no, but after the staff promised it was safe, she let him join. A few minutes later, she was told that her son had died in the pool.

"The lady who took my child said she was done entertaining the kids. My question is, why didn't she bring the child back to me?" Peninnah asked.

The family believes the hotel is responsible for what happened because they think the hotel did not take care of the kids properly.

Dylan's grandfather, Peter Maina, said, "This is something that cannot be ignored - it's clear negligence."

Dylan's aunt, Caroline Wairimu, added, "There was no one looking after the children at the pool. It feels like they don't care about kids' safety. You just pay and leave."

Police are investigating the case. They have arrested four hotel staff members, but they were later released on bond.

"The case is now handled by the DCI. Those involved have been released on bond," said Kilifi South Police Commander Ktabul Kochalle.

The hotel management has not spoken about the incident, even though they promised to address it on Tuesday.
