Kenya, May 29 -- A member of the Kiambu County Assembly was arrested on Thursday outside the Monalisa Hotel in Thika. She was taken in for questioning by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
This is related to the alleged fake kidnapping of Juja MP George Koimburi, who said he was kidnapped on May 26 outside a church in Mugutha.
Police say that Hon. Grace Nduta, who represents Kanyenyaini Ward, met with the MP on the day he claimed he was kidnapped.
Authorities now believe this incident was planned to help him avoid being arrested for a land fraud case.
Investigators have also arrested three other people and recovered two cars that were suspected of being used in this plan.
Detectives found that Koimburi spent the night of the alleged kidnapping at a hotel in Gatundu. He was given food and later taken to a coffee farm, where he was 'found' and taken to the hospital by his friends.
Forensic analysis showed that the license plates on the vehicles used were altered to hide their identity.
The MP is still in the hospital at Karen and is expected to be questioned. Mohamed Amin, the head of the DCI, confirmed that charges will be filed against everyone involved in what police are calling a politically motivated hoax.
