Kenya, March 9 -- Police in Uasin Gishu have started an investigation after a man was found to have set up a fake police patrol base in Cherus Centre, Kesses Sub-County, without permission from the National Police Service (NPS).
The man, named Collins Leitich, also known as Chepkulei, lives in Asis Village.
He built this patrol base in a building and even painted it in the colours used by real police, making it look like a real police post.
Officers from Kamuyu Police Post, which is part of Kondoo Police Station, were informed and entered the incident into their records.
Many local residents were surprised to find out that this patrol base was not official.
One resident said, "We were shocked to learn it wasn't real. We thought it was a good idea to help keep our area safe."
Police are still trying to find out why Collins set up this fake base. They have promised the community that they will take the right steps as they continue their investigation.
