Kenya, May 27 -- The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has shared an update about the investigation into the reported kidnapping of George Koimburi, who is a Member of Parliament from Juja.

On Tuesday, May 27, IG Kanja provided more details after a video began circulating online. The video seemed to show MP Koimburi left at a farm in Juja on Monday.

The Inspector General mentioned that police officers from Juja acted quickly and went to the farm to look at the place where the alleged incident happened. They took notes and pictures of the area.

However, Kanja pointed out that when they compared the plants and the size of the road in the video with what they saw at the farm, the two did not match. He also said that the coffee farm belonged to a person named Jimmy Wanjigi.

In his statement, Kanja noted that Moses Kariuki, the caretaker of the farm, said he did not see anything happen.

The police then went to Plainview Hospital in Ruiru because it was said that MP Koimburi had been taken there for treatment.

Kanja explained that officers from Juja confirmed that the car used to take the MP, which has the registration number KCJ 660P, was his car. It was driven by Frida Njeri, who was also the first person at the scene of the alleged event.

He mentioned that the hospital did not provide details about what treatment or first aid was given to the MP, which made it hard to understand how serious his injuries might be.

A special team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), along with experts in forensics, went to the farm to look carefully for evidence and find out what really happened.

At the same time, IG Kanja said the investigation team has talked to five people and plans to speak to more, especially MP Koimburi. They said they will interview him soon, but his family has stopped them from reaching him for now.

Kanja reminded everyone that the MP has been under investigation for a land fraud case, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had already given consent to take legal action against him.

He added that on Friday, May 23, 2025, the MP knew that the police wanted to arrest him. He escaped on a motorcycle with his security guard and turned off his phone. His car was stopped, and the driver was taken in but later released after giving his statement.

"The MP only came back yesterday, which is when the kidnapping claims started," Kanja said.
