
Kenya, July 17 -- I refused to inherit their darkness, even though no one chooses the family they are born into. I've never told anyone this in its entirety before. mostly due to a lack of understanding. Like they usually did, they would evaluate me with distance, dread, and murmurs. I was born into a witch's household, you see. These are not the rumours you hear. This actually happened.Everyone in our village knew who we were. I didn't let kids play with me. When my parents noticed me strolling with my mother, they crossed the street. Teachers were reluctant to handle my books as well. They said that our family had struck a bargain with darkness long before I was born, and that we were "cursed" for it.However, I didn't pick that path. No kid does. I would see things at home that no naive heart should see: whispering in unidentified tongues at three in the morning, chalk drawings on the walls, and black feathers on the threshold.
