
Kenya, Aug. 14 -- My estate's residents have known me for years as "that man who always borrows." It wasn't amusing. I had no employment, but every morning I would get up, iron my one decent shirt, and leave the house acting like I was going to work. Sometimes we got by on tea and mandazi, but my kids' school tuition kept building up. The worst thing? I used to assist my younger brother with his college expenses, but suddenly he was purchasing plots and owning large vehicles.I attempted everything: small enterprises, friend loans, even those chama contributions, but to no avail. Money seemed to despise me. I noticed two men conversing in a kibanda one evening as I was making my way home without anything in my pocket.
